Síos

About this word

Síos is an adverb of direction that means [go / going] down.

Notes

Irish makes explicit, concise distinctions regarding directions of movement. The following is just a brief introduction.

These examples are all correct:

  • Teir síos: go down.
  • Teir suas: go up.
  • Tar anuas: come down.
  • Tar aníos: come up.

And these two (the commonest mistakes) are quite wrong:

  • Tar síos: come down.
  • Tar suas: come up.
